Meaning: “Genesis” means “beginning”
Genesis is the book of beginnings: the origin of the universe, the creation of man and his fall into sin, nations, Israel, etc.. Although developments begin with "the beginning," the book was not written until the time of Moses. genesis has two main divisions: (1) the pre-Israel (Gen. 1-11) period and (2) the history of
Jewish patriarchs-Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph (Gen. 12-50). The book ends with death and funeral of Joseph. Genesis presents Christ as the seed of the woman (3:15) as well as the seed of Abraham (12:1-3).
